The annual election period is mid-May through June 30. After the election period has ended, waiver elections require a Qualifying Life Event or a new readmit status.

If you waive the SHP, you may utilize University Health Services, the University's on-campus health facility, as long as you are an actively enrolled student.

Coverage Requirements

To waive the Student Health Plan (SHP), your health insurance plan must meet all coverage requirements and be valid for the full plan year.

If your plan does not meet all requirements, you are required to enroll in the SHP. Financial aid may be available to aid-eligible students who do not meet the coverage requirements.

Navigating Multiple Insurance Plans

As a Graduate student, your Student Health Plan enrollment is mandatory, and you are not eligible to waive the plan.

The cost of the Student Health Plan is included as part of the tuition and fees and is typically paid alongside the tuition coverage received for fellowships, assistantships, and external grants.  You may check with your department to confirm that your Student Health Plan fee will be covered through your tuition.

If you are also covered under another health plan, refer to Navigating Multiple Insurance Plans
