Qualifying Life Events Enroll Students and dependentsSpouse and/or children under the age of 26 who did not elect the SHP or optional or voluntary plans during the annual election period may enroll in the plans mid-year if they experience a qualifying life event. These include:involuntary loss of other health, dental, and vision coverage, such as turning 26 and losing coverage through a parent's plan, or loss of employer-based coverage.Changes in household, such as birth, adoption, or marriage.entry into the countryAll Qualifying Life Events must be reported, within 31 days or the past 90 days for the birth or adoption of a child, via email to the Student Health Plan office. Supporting documentation must be provided at the time of enrollment. Plan costs will be prorated. Changes to coverage must be consistent with the Qualifying Life Event. Waive Students who did elect the SHP during the annual election period may be eligible to waive the plan for the spring/summer semester if there is new enrollment in a plan that meets our coverage requirements.You will remain on the SHP for the remainder of the fall coverage period, January 31st.SHP fees will be retained for the fall coverage period.Initiate a spring waiver via email by January 1st to the Student Health Plan office. You will be emailed instructions on how to submit your waiver request through the Aetna website.Aetna will verify your insurance and notify you of your waiver status (approved, denied, pending) via email.If your waiver is approved, your student account will be credited the Spring SHP fee within two weeks.If your waiver is not approved, you will remain enrolled in the SHP for the Spring and fees will be retained. Fall Readmits You are returning to the University as an enrolled student for the Fall semester. Undergraduate Students Required Health Insurance Election You will be emailed in mid-May with instructions on how to make your annual health insurance waiver or enrollment election for the upcoming plan year. If you do not receive an email by the end of May, contact the Student Health Plan office at [email protected]. Optional Insurance Elections You will be emailed in mid-May with instructions on how to make your annual optional insurance elections for the upcoming plan year.
